Rejoice began offering band as a scheduled elective for 5th and 6th graders in the 2018-2019 school year, throughout which the program maintained an average of 60 students total.
“Band is an artistic team sport,” says director Valerie Goforth, “In our classroom, you will see a diverse array of student personalities on a variety of instruments learning to cultivate and maintain a spirit of Christlike unity as we work toward a single, beautiful finished product. Whether students enjoy music as a supplement to their academic experience or whether they aspire to a future career in music, my hope is that time spent as a member of the Rejoice Band ministers to hearts and is treasured for a lifetime.”
Rejoice offers beginning band classes to both 5th and 6th grade students. Additional band classes for 2019-2020 include 6th grade intermediate band and 7-9th grade advanced band. “As we grow,” Goforth says, “we will continue to recruit students to the younger bands and expand what we offer our older band students each year until we serve our instrumentalists through graduation.”
The mission of Rejoice’s band program is to nurture the gift of music through participation in an instrumental ensemble, providing students with a powerful tool for worship, outreach, and personal growth that can be used for a lifetime.
