Happy May, My Friends!!! Guess what? It’s time to celebrate that special lady in your life, whether it be mom, grandma, aunt….. Mother’s Day is coming on Sunday! Have Dad or a sibling help you create one of these cards! She’ll love it!!!

Hey sweet little buddies! I hope you are all still healthy and doing well. I am writing this Tuesday night, right after that big storm that left a beautiful sky in it’s wake! Mrs. Henson, our Rejoice Art teacher, is one of my best friends, and I am lucky enough to live right across the street from her. How cool is that!?!? After the storm, she texted me to come outside with her and look at the beautiful sky God painted. I hope you got to see it, too. He truly is the greatest artist, and you, sweet kiddos, are his masterpiece. I miss you bunches, and I love you lots!

This week, let’s have some wacky fun! Let’s play dress up. You can be as silly or as sophisticated as you want to be. You can be fancy or comfy or anywhere in between!! Using our following clothing item words, either dress up your favorite doll/stuffed animal, or you can play dress up yourself. Have a parent say the word in Spanish, and you try to remember what clothing item it is. When you think you have the right item, put it on. At the end, do a fashion show! Have a blast with it; learning is so much more fun when we learn through play!

Clothing items:

camisa-shirt                         calcetines-socks

pantalones-pants                    zapatos-shoes

vestido-dress                        gorro-hat (like a ball cap)

falda- skirt                        pantalones cortos-shorts

cinturon-belt                        guantes-gloves

This week we are making bird feeders out of what you may have on hand at home! It is so nice to hear the birds singing their songs in the morning. I often wonder what they are saying to one another.

Here is a link with the directions and links to other crafts that can be done with recycled materials. April 22nd was Earth Day and there are many ways that we can help take care of the Earth that He has given us.

Hey guys! Another week has passed, and I haven’t seen your smiling faces or wrapped you in big hugs. Oh, how I miss seeing my little buddies! I hope you are having a good time learning at home, and I pray you are all staying healthy!

We are going to continue using the Calico Spanish curriculum we have been using the past 3 weeks. As always, please do not feel pressured to do these lessons! My goal is to enhance your learning from home experience, not add to an already overflowing plate. There are lots of fun videos, songs, and learning materials at www.calico.com. I have also included the link to the pdf files where you can print flashcards, worksheets, and dialogues. For the week of 4/27/20-5/1/20, let’s explore Day 4 videos and activities!

This week, let’s review some of our food words! I have attached the food worksheet we covered earlier this year. Have your mom or dad quiz you to see how much you remember!! Remember “el pollo loco,” our crazy chicken with his yo-yo?!?!  If you would like to, color your food worksheet. Then, with a parent, cut out the foods you like and fill your plate using either a real paper plate or the plate worksheet  I have attached.

Then, snuggle up with a soft blanket and take a virtual fieldtrip through the Amazon rainforest

Throwing and Catching Practice

Get a ball and go outside with permission. (If you don’t have a ball, a rolled-up sock works too.) Count how many times you can throw a ball up and catch it without dropping it. Try again and see if you can do better each time. What was your highest number? __________

Practice throwing and catching with another person. Start close together. Each time someone catches the ball, that person will take one step backwards. How far apart can you get?

Friends,

We will be making cards this week to offer hope and encouragement to those taking care of others during this time. Just like we have encouraged Madi, the kids in the orphanages, and those at the nursing home, we have the opportunity to encourage our local doctors and nurses.

*It is optional to send these cards. If you would like, you could take a pic and send it to someone that you know who is serving at the hospital or doctor’s office.

Your assignment this week is to draw and decorate a card for those serving the sick. Some examples would be, “Praying you stay safe!”  “Thank you for serving!” “You have a heart of gold!” Something short and sweet with a beautiful picture. Be sure to use your best handwriting and drawing/coloring. Have mom and dad check it to make sure that it is ready to be sent. This is a great way to practice addressing an envelope! Below are some addresses for you to mail your cards….

  • Crayons or colored pencils
  • Your creativity!

Watercolor Resist Tape

Here are some ideas from the internet.

Supplies

-White card stock, watercolor paper, or copy paper

-Painter’s tape

-Watercolors

Instructions:

  1. Use your painter’s tape to create a cross on your piece of paper.
  2. Paint around or over the cross.
  3. Gently pull the tape off when it is barely dry.

*Option: you can paint your cross brown after pulling off the tape.

My son created this one. After he removed the painter’s tape, he painted the void space brown.

Enjoy creating your art this week as you reflect on the beauty of the cross and what the Lord has done for us! He is RISEN!!

Mark 16:5-6: “As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. ‘Don’t be alarmed,’ he said. ‘You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.'”

Hi sweet friends! I sure miss your hugs, high fives, fist bumps, silly faces, dances, and any other fun way you have greeted me throughout this school year. When this is all over, and I fully trust that it WILL be over soon, I can’t wait to see all of you again! Until then, let’s have some fun learning in a new way!

Calico Spanish is a curriculum I purchased earlier this year, but I never got the chance to fully implement in the classroom. It is great, because it can be used for multiple grade levels! They are now offering their printable pdf, as well as other learning materials, to students and families as we all adapt to schooling at home together during this crazy time. Please do not feel pressured to do these lessons, but there are lots of fun videos, songs, and learning materials at www.calico.com. I have also included the link to the pdf files where you can print flashcards, worksheets, and dialogues. For the week of 4/6/20-4/10/20, let’s explore Day 1 videos and activities!

A summer parade, a drummer parade, a magical bucket-and-bowl serenade!  What begins with one boy’s beat on a kettle soon spreads to pots and pans and cartons and cans all across the neighborhood. Creating Your Own Instruments!

In this book people pick up all sorts of things to make music.  They play rhythms on pots and pans, cartons, barrels, bins, pails, buckets, and lots more!  Have you ever thought of using an everyday item to make your own instrument?

With your parent’s help you can visit this website created by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.  Click on the image below to see how you can make your own instruments out of everyday objects!

Colors Review

These kiddos know their colors, but it’s always good to review! Here are some fun sites that review their colors. Another fun game is to say a color in Spanish, and ask them to find something that color. “Find something azul.” Or, play “I Spy” but say the color of the object in Spanish. Most importantly, have FUN!

(This one covers numbers and colors together.)

Another fun website for Spanish is:

https://www.duolingo.com/learn

Here, the kiddos can play games, watch videos, listen to songs, and have fun learning. It covers lots of different topics, and they can earn points for each completed lesson.

Numbers Review

Numbers were one of the first things we covered this year, and we review them each day on our calendar, as well as when we play BINGO.

(Good luck getting this tune out of your head!)

(Skip counting by 10’s to 100)

Toilet Paper Bird

Materials

-Toilet paper roll (or paper towel roll cut in half)

-colored paper (if you only have white, you can color it or paint it first-like we did with our trees project)

*You can also use scrapbook paper.

-glue, scissors,

-black marker/white out or googly eyes

Directions

Step 1: Cut your colored (or painted paper) the length of your toilet paper roll and leave an inch overhang for the top of the roll.

Step 2: Place the paper flat and squeeze glue in a line around the edge of the paper.

Step 3: Roll the toilet paper roll on the paper until it wraps around the roll.

Step 4: Push in the excess colored paper at the top of the roll on each side. This will create 2 points.

Step 5: Draw the eyes on its face. I used white out and a sharpie. You could use googly eyes or paper.

Step 6: Cut an orange triangle for the beak. I colored a triangle and cut it out to use. Then, glue it on the roll.

Step 7: Cut pieces out of colored paper for the wings. I used some cardstock that we had home. Glue them on the bird. You are finished! Enjoy your bird!

Bonus Art: Enjoy feeding the birds this week. You can use toilet paper rolls rolled in peanut butter and birdseed to make bird feeders. Set outside on your porch and watch them come eat!

Connection to God’s Word:

God’s Word says that we are so precious to Him! He takes such great care of the birds, yet He loves us even more!

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” Matthew 6:26

There is a song that I love that talks about this. It’s by Tauren Wells.   Like You Love Me

Take a look around the writing hut to see where he created his ideas for stories. When you scroll to the bottom, there are three different activities to make. You may choose one of these or create your own! This week is like when we used to have multi-media and create whatever we could imagine with the various supplies we had in the room. Maybe at your house you have some popsicle sticks, toilet paper/paper towel rolls, feathers, buttons, pipe cleaners, etc. I want for you to use your imagination to help you create your own creation, masterpiece or invention. Be sure to send me a pic of your creation/invention!

I pray that you have a wonderful summer! I look forward to seeing you on the 20th 🙂

Music

HAPPY LAST WEEK of SCHOOL!  Have a safe and wonderful summer break.

For music this week, I thought you might like to play a few musical games.  Head on over to one of my favorite websites (link below) and try some of the games.  Which one do you like the best?

Have you been listening to music by our Composer of the Month?

If you are interested in learning more about him, I have included his picture and Biography here.  Ask a family member to help you read some of the facts about his life.  What do you find most interesting?

Family Field Day

This week pick a day (or two, or three… 😊) and have family field day at home. Some of these activities can be completed inside the house and others outside. You can pick your favorite events or try them all. Feel free to make up your own events too. Have fun and be safe!

Limbo – use a stick from outside or a yardstick and see how low you can go

3-Legged Race – use something around the house to loosely tie two people’s legs together, you can time how long it takes each pair to race to a designated spot or just play for fun

Chalk Obstacle Course – use chalk on your driveway or sidewalk to draw an obstacle course and see who can complete it the fastest

Long Jump – use chalk to mark each person’s longest jump

Long Throw – pick a ball and see who can throw it the farthest

Sack Race – use a pillowcase or trash bag and race to a designated spot

Egg in Spoon Race – use a plastic (or real 😉) egg and balance it in a spoon, race to a designated spot

Cup Stacking Race – see who can cup stack up and down the fastest, try the different stacks (3-3-3; 3-6-3; 6-6; and cycle), or see who can stack the most cups/best tower

Walk/Run/Bike 1 Mile – see if you can complete a mile around your neighborhood, this can be finished over multiple days or all at once

Tag – play a good old-fashioned game of tag in the yard

Hey my sweet littles! WE MADE IT!! I am so proud of all of you. I know there is so much you don’t understand right now, and I know it’s been hard, but you did it!! God is going to do great things through you, and I am so thankful that I get to watch it all unfold. This week is a bit different. If we were in my class, I would be doing a movie day or party day to celebrate with you one last time. Well, since I can’t do that, I have made some videos of me reading our favorite books we have enjoyed over the year. So, grab a blankie and a stuffie, cuddle up with Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, or whoever is taking care of you right now, and enjoy some of our favorite silly stories. I love you guys, and I can’t wait to see you when it is safe to do so!
